The matrix form increases communication between employees working at all levels and in all departments. It is demanding, but this form of collaboration paves the way for a flexible and competence-stimulating organisation. In a matrix organisation, rapid intervention is necessary when dealing with conflicts and problems as soon as they arise or are discovered.
Collaboration is based on the exchange of views and involvement, e.g. through the performance of tasks and participation. The cornerstones of collaboration, i.e. collegiality and co-existence, are developed through adaption to the form of collaboration, follow-up and shared responsibility for the results.
The success criteria for a matrix organisation are clear and transparent roles where interface challenges are identified and clarified. The decision making structures must be known and processes well described. Projects are carried out in accordance with clear development processes.
